Today was my first race since the marathon. I found a series of races run by a small store in West Chester (The Athlete's Closet) and signed up for them. There is a 5K in December, January, and February, and a 5 miler in March. It was like $35 for all four races and a long sleeved T-shirt. A good deal if you ask me.
The December race was this morning. It was a great day for running. Sunny and about 37 degrees. A little breezy but nothing major. I thought there was a fairly good turn out of runners. It's a pretty low key race through the neighborhood behind East and then there's awards and food at the Ice Cream Co.
I had told my dad that after I completed the marathon my next goal would be to break 30 minutes in a 5K. Well, I CRUSHED that today. I haven't been running much since the marathon - just a couple "long" runs on the weekends. Nevertheless, I decided I'd try my best to break 30 minutes today. I normally don't run "fast" but 3.1 miles is much shorter than 26.2, so I figured it wouldn't kill me to try.
I felt good the whole race. My 1st mile split was 9:04 and my two mile split was 18:14. I lost some of my stamina the third mile, but I still managed to finish under 30 minutes. I was PUMPED. The course was slightly hilly but now I know what to expect for the next two races.
New PR!!!
