Today I ran a new half-marathon PR!! I improved my time by 10:09. I am SO proud of myself. (Especially when I told my dad and he said, "Wow! Did you take a taxi?!")I've been training pretty consistently since the beginning of November - thanks 1,000 Mile Challenge! - but I really haven't run more than three miles at a time since September. But it didn't matter because I was faster.

I was thinking. Dropping 10:09 is like running almost a mile less when you run at my pace. I used to run 7:30, walk 2:30 in half marathons. Today I decided I'd trying just walking 2:00 at each water station. I don't do a very good job drinking out of a cup while running anyway. I felt great the whole race. My first mile was pretty conservative (over 11:00 minutes) but I sped up along the way. I wanted to try and run a pace under 11:00 miles, but I was ahead of the game. Around mile 10 I decided to try and break 2:20. At Mile 11, I figured it I ran fast enough, I might be able to knock 10:00+ off my PR. I PUSHED it those last two miles and I felt really good until almost the very, very end. Then my breathing was getting harder. I was passing tons of people though.

Chris, the best husband ever, came down with me. He saw me at the start, right around the 10K mark, and again at the finish. He actually saw me right before the finish too, but I was really concentrating and didn't see him. It was great to have some give me a big hug at the end and be excited with me for my PR.

My next race is a local 5K on December 8th. I'm looking forward to it. Last year I placed in my age-group at this first race. We'll see how this year goes!
