Today I did my 15 mile long run...to which my dad said, "Holy mackerel!" I've never gone farther than a half-marathon so it was a little bit of an accomplishment. :)
I ran the 5 mile loop at Valley Forge three times. I felt great the first lap and still pretty good the second one. However I pretty much died on the third. I think I walked the last 3.5 miles. I tried to start walking earlier in my run today. I walked for one minute at the 15, 30, 45, and 60 minute marks. The second hour I walked for two minutes every 12 minutes. It definitely helped my legs from getting tired; they were not nearly as sore as last week despite the hills on the loop today. I ran with Chris' Zune and the music helped me keep going. Don't worry, Mom! I run on the path so there's no traffic and there are a lot of runners/joggers/walkers/cyclists/tourists around so I can still pay attention to my surroundings. Anyway, I was going up a killer hill on the second loop and it was really tough but then some boss music from a video game came on the shuffle and it motivated me right over that hill!
It's kind of scary that if I ran two more laps I STILL wouldn't be done the marathon!! I'm getting a little nervous that I won't be able to do the whole marathon. I don't want everyone to be embarrassed or disappointed in me. Sometimes I think I should just switch to the half-marathon. But for now I'll just keep going.
I'm still debating joining a pace team for the marathon, too. I think the slowest one is 5:30...which still might be too fast for me. I will definitely be walking part of the marathon.
Less than 2 months to go!
