Thanks to Irene I had to save my long weekend run for today. The weather is gorgeous so it was nice to get outside. I went over to the Schuykill River Trail since the part I run on is uphill from the river. When I got to the parking lot at Betzwood, the back lot closer to the river was still pretty flooded. The trail in Valley Forge is tree-covered and there were just sticks and leaves everywhere. I saw one tree down in the woods, and there was one that must have been blocking the trail because it had been cut up and was right on the side.
The river was moving pretty fast and it was totally brown from the mud. I ran past an apartment complex and all the cars were parked on the grass near the trail instead of in their lots which were covered in mud, so it must have been flooded.
There's a private community called Port Indian that's between the trail and the river for about a mile or so. All their cars were parked on the far side of the trail. I ran past a lot of ride-on lawn mowers parked along the trail. There are some houses that are right on the rivers. They seem to have garages on the bottom and the living space is on the higher floors. Good thing, because the water line on the houses had to be at least 5 or 6 feet up. I hope all the people are alright and that they didn't lose too much stuff.
On my way back, people were riding on this little car that was blowing the debris off the path...they don't waste any time! Irene definitely could have been worse, but she was still messing with everyone.
