Today was The Wild Half down the shore. Chris and I headed to the Royal Hawaiian after work on Friday. Unfortunately, we did not have the best weather this weekend! Friday night we went to the boardwalk for dinner. Saturday morning we walked to the Convention Center to pick up my race packet and we walked home along the ocean. It was chilly and drizzly, so we stayed in most of the day. (We did go down to the pool so I could swim under the island and then we sat in the hot tub.) After a shower we walked back to the boardwalk for some rides but as SOON as we got there it started to rain and the rides were all closed. :( So we walked back home in the rain. There were CRAZY thunderstorms most of the night and LOTS of rain.
However, when we got up today it was actually kind of sunny and warm! The race was pretty good. I hadn't been training as much as I'd have liked, so I decided instead of trying to run a goal pace, I would "Run 7:30 - Walk 2:30" the whole time. My strategy worked well, as I only finished about three minutes slower than my PR. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the flat course! My legs are a little sore, but nothing too terrible.
I really enjoyed the race. It was flat, and there were a lot of aid stations with water, Gatorade, cool washcloths, and energy gels. Running along the boardwalk was exciting too. I think I may sign up to run it again next year - we should start hoping for nice weather now!
