I'm sitting here tonight, relaxing after yoga, watching coverage of the Boston Marathon from earlier today. (The one announcer is TERRIBLE - he's pretty much Captain Obvious. He's also an idiot - he just said the men's resting heart rate is 35 beats per SECOND.) I always tear up watching everyone finish. They had a BEAUTIFUL day. Someday I will run Boston. I have to drop a little over two hours to qualify, so I don't think it'll happen anytime soon, but you know. It's a goal.
Anyway, in preparation for my upcoming races, I was supposed to do a 5.5 mile long run over the weekend. I moved it to Sunday since I ran a 5K Saturday morning.
After Easter mass, I came home and convinced Chris to go along with me on his bike. It was nice out but a little chilly. I did my normal five mile loop and then we changed it up a bit at the end. Once I settled into the run, I felt really good. I've been wearing compression socks for any long run and I think it REALLY helps. We'll see how helpful it is when I start my longer marathon training runs. I also put a pair on once I get home and shower to help speed recovery.
Thanks to Chris, I was able to push the pace a bit. I had him go in front of me for the last half-mile so I could chase him. I was more than happy to finish with a pace under 11:00 miles. Then I walked 0.7 miles to cool down.
Mile 1 - 10:42
Mile 2 - 10:17
Mile 3 - 10:28
Mile 4 - 10:25
Mile 5 - 10:21
Last 0.5 - 5:01
